AoY Podcast #15 – NashiCon 2013 Report

Although I gave a hint in our last post about Gundam: The Origin being the next possible episode, we don’t have that recording just yet. But, I was able to kill a Saturday by going to one of South Carolina’s local anime conventions, NashiCon. If you are reading this and you went to NashiCon this year, you probably had a good time, especially if it was your first convention. However, my thoughts are not entirely with you on that one, as I get to break down the things that transpired before me with other nerds.

I talked about the panels I went too (and the one I did that Saturday night), certain con-goers and their downfalls, chilling with friends, certain facebook people, video game talk, @Love_that_Goku talk and much more. I do wanna thank the staff for doing such a good job in not letting the convention center burn down to the ground, and other things included. Also, there is a weird audio problem where I was trying to transition into talking about the Digimon panel I went to, just FYI.

AoY Podcast #14: Hokuto no Ken Arc 3 / Hotline Miami Review

Also known as: “Let’s go out to lunch, LUNCH”

After getting through Gundam Month, we decided to stretch our muscles a bit and take on the toughest fighters in the Post-Apocalypse, namely those from Hokuto no Ken (You know, Fist of the North Star). In this episode, we cover the third arc of the HnK universe, which consist of martial artist building giant pyramids using children, fighting you brother for supremacy, and post-apocalypse olympics games. We SPOIL that arc if you don’t know too much about it, like we usually do. I also talk about a really great PC game I played while being sick/being on spring break called Hotline Miami, you should totally check that out too.

We also go off topic on things like our childhood days, including Meme Barney songs from our childhood, jokes about nailing teachers, being sick, bad anime online commercials, Roger Ebert and LucasArts both dying out, and the @Love_That_Goku twitter legacy, and with other things.

AoY Podcast #13 – Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn Episode 6 (Gundam Month Pt 3 – Final Week)

Also known as: ”When I go to bed, to laugh, to go to sleep, that’s the song I listen too…”
Or could be known as: “Dude, just be a real white dude and own a .45!”

This is going to conclude our Gundam Month segment. Since we have not only covered the essential 90′s AU Gundam shows, but we decide to review the latest Gundam Unicorn OVA. This was recorded actually before the rest of our other Gundam recordings kinda, since what we discussed in this episode was still fresh in our heads. And that was all good until we got sidetracked…like, A LOT!

Regardless of a few things we spoiled about this latest OVA, we also went off topic on things such as general Gundam/Anime talk, doing some catching up with our special guest Shin Von Vekou (of our old Kool Kids Klub podcast days), mention the Colorado guy who found Osama Bin Laden, Koichi Ohata ranting on Tomino, stupid anime fan bickering, more Love_that_Goku tweets, the death of Chieko Honda, Soulja Boy music, and I give a brief talk on the latest Tomb Raider game.

Also, Jeff and Andy from the Daily Anime Podcast come in to help us find Laplace’s box.

AoY Podcast #12 – Turn A Gundam Review (Gundam Month Pt 3 – Week Four)

Also known as: “The South shall get Colony Drop’d AGAIN!!”

For this week in our Gundam Month, we are taken back to a time where mobile suits and bi-planes cannot co-exist, and that is in the universe of all Gundam universes, Turn A Gundam. Myself and my co-hosts saw (or should I say CHEATED into watching) the compilation movies, which did not do this series justice for us. But, with the help of Jeff from the Daily Anime Podcast as our guest host, he was able to shed some light on some of the issues between the series and the movies. And, like usual fashion, there are Spoilers to this show, but we just discussed the stuff that mattered (ie, what we couldn’t make sense of).

We also spend a moment going off topic to talk about Gundam: The Origin, people on the internet, Charlton Heston movies and general anime/Mysterious Girlfriend X talk. I also wanna mention, Gundam Breaker Beta is out on the Japanese PSN, which is the soul successor game (maybe?) to Gunpla Builders. Plus, screw the NCAA tournament, because NC State got knocked out the first round.

AoY Podcast #11 – OUR SUPER DUPER LEFTOVER BONUS PODCAST

Also known as: “Did he say ‘French Hookers’?”

Were taking a brief detour break from our Gundam month, because well… we don’t have Turn A Gundam ready yet, or even recorded. However, I’ve had these ‘leftovers’ of recording material for months now that I just didn’t know what to do with all of them. So, I decided to just COMBINE THEM ALL IN ONE EPISODE!! That’s right guys, I was really lazy and just put 4 previous, unedited, recordings into one podcast episode, because I think that might be the best course of action. I should warn, this is close to the 6 HOUR MARK!!! So, I don’t expect anyone to sit through this whole thing at once (god help you if you do.)

I am, however, nice enough to give time sections to what we talked about, so if you wanna skim to a certain point or you wanna know where we are at (which, we don’t even know where were at most of the time), look at the time on the episode and see if it corresponds with the time on whats written below.

Also, I will issue a challenge to anyone who can listen to this whole episode by the time our next episode comes out. Whoever is the first to comment on this post saying they did it, will get my thanks for wasting your time listening to this podcast. Or… I’ll think of something legit, I dunno. So, here we go:

0’00-1’33-ish: This was recorded sometime in October of 2012 with our last podcast. This is us discussing the Black Dynamite show/movie with our “internet correspondent” DaftPunkFan, which he also gives his tale at Another Anime Convention 2012. We also go off topic to talk about Disney shows, and me defending/discussing late 1990′s MTV cartoons. And Daft talks about Eden of the East for a bit also.

1’33’30-1’48’17: Me and Jonn decide to critique a podcast episode at Toon Radio Science. I think critiquing is the appropriate term. Recording back in January…something.

1’48’17-3’34’40: This was our CN Upfront discussion that was announced like late January/early February with Daft, Josh, Jonn and I. We also talked a bit about Hulk Hogan and Check it Out! on Adult Swim, along with other things.

3’34’40-5’49’47 :I sat this one out as Jonn, Josh and Daft talked about DC/Marvel properties such as Death of the Family, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Superman/Batman Apocalypse. They mention some guy who stalks people on AIM, as well as other things.

AoY Podcast #10 – Mobile Report Gundam Wing Review (Gundam Month Pt 3 – Week Three)

Also known as: “Vash The Redwood?“

Mission… Accepted! The Gundam 90′s era isn’t over for us yet, and we have reached the halfway point where we dive into a world of TOTAL PACIFISM!! I’m talking about that Mobile Report Gundam Wing. Gundam Wing seems to be the Gundam show that introduced today’s American anime fans into Gundam (I myself included.) Some of them will die by this series as being the best thing they have ever seen. Well, we happen to say some choice words about this show, and sorta SPOIL it as well (again, from what we can best remember). We also use those choice words on the sequel Endless Waltz, and briefly mention the side manga’s off this show before ending things.

I should note, Andy and Jeff from the Daily Anime Podcast made all the episode screw-ups possible (which made it not a boring podcast episode).

Next time, we will make a brief Turn Around into another Gundam show.

AoY Podcast #9 – Mobile Fighter G Gundam Review (Gundam Month Pt 3 – Week Two)

Also known as: “Chicho Rodriguez, Nosotros Fightamos en Gundamos“

LET’S GET THINGS STARTED, AOY PODCAST ALL SET, READY… GO!!! You guessed it, we keep fighting our way to the top of the 1990′s Gundam AU series with none other than Mobile Fighter God Gundam. This was a show we gave a general discussion about, and of course, spoiled some things (as usual). But I assure you, there is still a lot more to this show that we didn’t cover (probably because we forgot about half of it maybe). After that, we talked about anime toys and gunpla for a bit before ending things off.

AoY Podcast #8: After War Gundam X Review (Gundam Month Pt 3 – Week One)

Also known as: ” The moon is A NEWTYPE!”

It’s March, and not only are you keeping up with the NCAA BeeBAWL tournament, but were keeping up with doing yet another Gundam month. This is our third Gundam month, so we know what were doing when it comes to talking about Gundam shows (of course, we can’t stick to a podcast name when we do one). This time we cover the 90′s AU Gundam series, and we start a bit out of order with After War Gundam X. To kick things off, we pretty much spoil the ending right off the bat, but then we talk about the rest for a half hour. After that, we just keep on talking about Gundam and anime in general to warm up for the rest of the month.

Next time should be our Mobile Fighter G Gundam review, pretty sure.

AoY Podcast #7 – Aliens: Colonial Marines Review

This week, I sit down and talk about my major malfunction about Gearbox latest (failure) game, Aliens: Colonial Marines. This is pretty much about an hour of me acting like a 5 year old who whined and complained to my co-host about how a game I have been looking forward too for so long, sucked more than it should. I should also mention that I give some SPOILERS about the game story, so if you haven’t played this game yet and you haven’t been influenced by the internet not to buy it, then don’t listen to this.
